Finding Äkäslompolo

Äkäslompolo, located in the municipality of Kolari in Western Lapland, is about 150 km above the Arctic Circle. Despite that, it is pretty easy to get here!
The usual route is to fly to Kittilä and then take the airport bus to Äkäslompolo or pick up a car or taxi at the airport. The drive is only around 45 minutes. Alternatively, you can fly to Rovaniemi and from there the drive is just over 2 hours. A more romantic and eco-friendly option is to take a sleeper train from Helsinki and arrive in the morning in Kolari, just 20 minutes’ drive from Äkäslompolo.
